This is North Devon -- A 5-year-old and 12-year-old had to be rescued by Ilfracombe RNLI and the inshore lifeboat last night after getting cut off by the tide at Hele Bay. The crew were called out to rescue the two sisters at around 6.10pm after a member of the public alerted coastguards. The two youngsters were cut off by the rising tide while playing on the beach at Hele. Ilfracombe's inshore lifeboat, Deborah Brown II, was on a training exercise about a mile and a half west of Ilfracombe when the call was received. It arrived at the scene in Hele Bay within 10 minutes and performed a beach landing, with one volunteer crew member going ashore to fit the girls with lifejackets and help them into the lifeboat. They were brought back to the main beach at Hele Bay where they were reunited with their parents and handed to the local coastguard team. They were both injured. The volunteer lifebaoat crew then continued to their exercise before returning to the lifeboat station. It was the second call out in two days for the Ilfracombe inshore lifeboat after a 13-year-old girl was cut off by the tide at Lee Bay in Ilfracombe on Wednesday.
She was with two friends and ended up stranded on Appledore Rocks at around 5pm.
Coastguards were called and the girl was rescued and returned to her parents and friends who were waiting for her at Black Pit beach.
No one was injured in the incident. Reported by This is 2 hours ago.
