Filmed by Chellaston-based film company Light Films, the video is a promotional clip for its first feature film, zombie epic Wasteland. The girl beginning the dance is Jessica Messenger, a Derbyshire actress who plays the main character's girlfriend in the film. The zombies who join her in the clip are volunteers, not just from around Derbyshire but from all over the country. Chrissa Wadlow, Light Film's commercial director, said: "There really is a cult following with this sort of film." Since its release the zombie Harlem Shake has received more than 2,000 views. Wasteland tells the story of Derbyshire man Scott as he survives a zombie epidemic and waits for his girlfriend to return, who has gone to check on her parents in London.
