Former Outkast star-turned-actor André Benjamin completely convinces as guitar legend Jimi Hendrix in this classy biopic. Writer-director John Ridley (who wrote Steve McQueen's 12 Years A Slave) concentrates on the years before Hendrix became famous with Imogen Poots as Linda Keith, the girl who would introduce him to manager Chas Chandler, and Hayley Atwell as the musician's long-term girlfriend. Don't expect the hits (Hendrix's estate retains the rights) but do expect a poignant portrait that captures the spirit of the man.
