This is Scunthorpe -- Following a hugely successful 2012 for Sheridan Smith, the Epworth born actress' star shone brightly in the public eye at Christmas and is poised to do so again throughout 2013. The 31-year-old actress starred in an adaptation of David Walliams' Mr Stink novel on the BBC as part of the festive schedule. The hour-long film told the story of a young girl who befriends a local tramp at Christmas, with Sheridan cast as the girl's Mum. Sheridan will be teaming up with Little Britain star Walliams again in 2013 as they star together in A Midsummer Night's Dream. Their performance of Shakespeare's famous comedy will run from September 7 to November 16 at the Noel Coward Theatre in London. Sheridan will see in 2013 rubbing shoulders with some of Hollywood's greatest names, as she stars in the Dustin Hoffman directed Quartet, released on January 1. Starring Dame Maggie Smith, Michael Gambon and Billy Connolly, the film about a home for retired opera singers sees Sheridan in exalted company. 2012 has seen Sheridan take both her TV and stage careers to new heights. Earlier this year she won a prestigious Laurence Olivier Award, for Best Performance in a Supporting Role for her performance as Doris in Flare Path. The award was her second Olivier, following her success in 2011 when she won Best Actress in a Musical for Legally Blonde. In September, Sheridan played the title role in Henrik Ibsen's Hedda Gabler at the Old Vic in London, a performance which has seen the Lincolnshire actress receive rave reviews. Sheridan also starred in an episode of Jimmy McGovern's highly acclaimed BBC TV series Accused, alongside John Bishop and Robert Sheehan, as well as the ITV drama The Scapegoat. Her biggest role on the small screen in 2012 saw her play the title role in Mrs Biggs, as the wife of Great Train robber Ronnie Biggs. Sheridan also starred on the big screen, taking on film roles in thriller Tower Block and the Victorian-set Hysteria. In 2013, Sheridan will also star in the Easter special of the hugely popular BBC crime mystery Jonathan Creek with Alan Davies. She joined the show in 2009 as Creek's assistant Joey Ross. The 90-minute special was set to broadcast this Christmas, but due to other commitments it has been delayed until Easter.
