Win tickets for new stories and magical shoes This is Dorset --

THE summer holidays have arrived and that means it's not long until the Sting in the Tale Festival of Stories. From 16th to 26th August over 20 venues across East Dorset will be hosting fantastic storytellers. With over 40 performances from professional storytellers, the festival celebrates the ancient art of storytelling by delighting and enticing all ages to journey into their imagination.

As well as stories of local history or twists on traditional tales, some of the theatre companies featured in this years festival create and perform their own stories, this year Valise Noire Storytelling Theatre are bringing us The Girl and The Shoes at The Hub in Verwood. This new enchanting children's fairytale transports the audience from the rural countryside of France to vibrant Paris in a world of beautiful and magical shoes with a story of love, courage and understanding. A contemporary piece of storytelling for girls and boys, combined with the visual arts make this a unique show that will capture imaginations by exploring what happens when you put on magical shoes. The show is also accompanied by a workshop where participants are invited to explore the stories behind the shoes we wear, create new stories and transform old shoes into story shoes.

The creators of the show, Hazel Evans artist in residence at Lighthouse Poole and Michele O'Brien award winning storyteller have combined their talents as artists to create this new fairytale that incorporates a visually interesting set using 100 white shoe boxes, story shoes created during their workshops and projections of Hazel's illustrations to depict the setting. The show is also accompanied by a specially created soundtrack by Momo:tempo which gives everyone a chance to get up and have a little dance with some of the favourite characters from the show. This is a great show that will make children and adults alike jiggle with laughter and maybe even learn a little French! Tuesday 20th August - To book tickets contact The Hub in Verwood lifestyleverwood.com 01202 828740

The festival is also delighted to feature some favourite theatre companies from the area, with performances from Treehouse Theatre who will be performing at The Model Town and in West Parley Memorial Hall, and bok Theatre who are performing at Highcliffe Castle, Lemur Landings Tower Park and The Red House Museum in Christchurch with a variety of shows. Valise Noire will also be performing at Sixpenny Handley Village Hall.
