A GIRL has told a jury that she was so drunk that she was "half asleep" when she was raped by a stranger in a city park.
The teenager said she was so intoxicated that she did not scream or lash out at Craig Goldstone, Plymouth Crown Court heard. But she insisted he dragged her into bushes in Devonport Park and that she did not want sex.
Goldstone, 28, of no fixed address, denies the rape of the student in Devonport Park on the night of Thursday, July 5, last year. He claims that they had consensual sex.
He later escaped from Charles Cross police station through an insecure door.
The complainant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, gave evidence from behind a screen. She said she had been drinking cider with a friend when they had seen Goldstone walking his Staffordshire bull terrier.
The girl added she played with the dog and her friend went home, leaving her alone with the stranger.
Cross-examined by Goldstone's barrister, Ali Rafati, she said she was dragged into bushes. He claimed the pair had sex.
She said: "I did not want it to happen."
Mr Rafati said: "Did you say "no" to him at any stage?"
She replied: "I was half asleep."
He asked: "You were not shouting and screaming?"
She said: "I was too drunk."
Mr Rafati suggested she had made up the rape because her mother would be angry she had been out late drinking and had sex with a "random man" in the park.
She denied this. The trial continues. Reported by This is 5 hours ago.
