This is South Devon --
FILMING of a major new BBC One programme about the Great Train Robbers will recreate Torquay's part in the infamous tale.
These pictures were taken by a passer-by during filming.
But take a closer look and although the old place looks the same this is not the English Riviera as we know it.
That is because the filming actually took place in Filey with the Yorkshire seaside resort doubling as 1960s Torquay.
The episode being filmed is the moment detectives swooped on an address in the Bay where mastermind Bruce Reynolds was living with his family.
Reynolds, who died earlier this year at the age of 81, escaped detection and settled in the town before the law eventually caught up with him.
After his arrest in 1968 he was sentenced to 25 years for his part in the £2.6million mail train robbery
The drama 'The Great Train Robbery' is being made for BBC One.
It is written by Chris Chibnall (Broadchurch, United) and made by World Productions for BBC One.
In fact the company is making two 90-minute films – 'A Robber's Tale' and 'A Copper's Tale'.
'A Robber's Tale', is directed by Julian Jarrold (The Girl, Appropriate Adult).
According to the BBC the first film 'tells the story of the gang whose audacious crime secured unheard of wealth and the wrath of the establishment'.
'A Copper's Tale', is directed by James Strong (United, Broadchurch), and 'tells the story of Tommy Butler and the crack team of detectives he assembled in his relentless quest to bring the robbers to justice'.
The dogged detective will be played by Jim Broadbent in the film, which also features Tim Pigott-Smith and James Fox in the cast.
The BBC confirmed that Filey doubled for Torquay.
"Filey is the nearest seaside town to our Yorkshire base that works for the period," the spokesman said.
"All of The Great Train Robbery is being filmed in Yorkshire. Filming in Torquay was never an option and Filey represented the most cost-effective and realistic alternative.
The Great Train Robbery will be screened on BBC One later this year. Reported by This is 16 hours ago.
