This is Croydon --
A SICKENING video of child pornography is being circulated among Croydon schoolchildren.
Police have launched an investigation after receiving dozens of complaints about the recording, which shows a man sexually abusing a girl of three or four.
A message containing a direct link to the video has been circulated among thousands of pupils in Croydon, Sutton and Wallington via BlackBerry Messenger (BBM).
Teacher Holly Burraway contacted the police after being shown the video by a student.
Miss Burraway, head of special needs at an independent school in Croydon, said: "It's the most vile video I've ever seen.
"The students I work with are quite tough. Nothing really phases them, but one lesson they seemed worried and quiet.
"One of the boys showed me their phone and said this is what is being spread around on BBM.
"I watched a minute and a half of it. As a teacher you have to expose yourself to certain things to look after your students.
"I watched it until I couldn't stomach it any more. It was absolutely horrific."
The video shows a very young girl being forced into sex acts by a grown man. It is not clear where the girl is from or where the video was filmed.
A direct link to the footage was broadcast on BBM, an instant messaging network which allows users of BlackBerry mobile phones to contact each other for free. It later spread across the country after being posted on Facebook.
"According to my students more or less every single person on their accounts had seen it," said Miss Burraway, who was shown the clip on March 22.
After being alerted that the video was spreading around Croydon schools, the council sent out a message to head teachers, urging anyone who clicked on the link to contact the police directly.
Tania Savory's son Karl, a pupil at Archbishop Lanfranc, was sent the link, as was her daughter, a pupil at Norbury Manor Business and Enterprise College in Thornton Heath.
"At first I don't really think he understood what it was," said Ms Savory. "He was upset and when I asked what was wrong he said he had been sent something on his phone but that I wouldn't want to see it.
"So obviously I took it off him to find out what it was. I watched about 30 seconds and then called the police immediately. It was sick."
The police visited Ms Savory, 37, on March 21 and said they had received more than a dozen reports related to the video.
David Clark, head teacher at Archbishop Lanfrac, who was not aware of the issue, said: "Had we discovered such material in school it would have been treated as a child protection issue with a full investigation."
The detective investigating the video was unavailable for comment when the Advertiser went to press, but a Met spokesman said received reports from Croydon, Sutton and Wallington.
He advised anyone who had been sent the link to delete it immediately and contact the police. Reported by This is 1 day ago.
