VIDEO: Introducing Lizzie Goddard from Gainsborough This is Scunthorpe -- When I first thought of the idea for Steel Town Sound I asked a few people for names they'd recommend. One that was mentioned by nearly everyone was Lizzie Goddard and wow how glad am I that I took their advice!
Seeing a girl, with a guitar in hand, walk up to the microphone looking pretty nervous, the first few lines she sang absolutely blew me away. Finding out after her performance that the girl standing in front of me was only 16 years old I couldn't help feel amazed even more at what I'd just heard. For someone that freely admits that she is socially awkward the way she had the crowd in the palm of her hand I can only see big things in her future.

You'd never know she gets nervous wherever she plays, a cool exterior and a smile that never leaves her face, she's the picture of confidence as she sits in front of a captive audience. It's always good to see an artist look like they are enjoying performing and this girl does exactly that.

A set featuring songs from artists as varied as Rhianna/Eminem via Adele and Katy Perry all sung in her own way, she puts her own stamp on every song she sings. Her version of Snow Patrol's "Run" was, for me, better than the version sung by X Factor winner Leona Lewis. The best thing to hear from a local artist is when they sing their own songs. The song "Lottery Win", written about the time her father lost his job, shows that she has a talent not only for singing but writing as well.

Listening to Lizzie perform it's hard to believe she has never had singing lessons, started teaching herself guitar around the age of 13 and some of her own songs were written as a 12 year old. In her own words she's "desperate to do well" with her music. An artist who wants people to hear her sing her own songs, it's not hard to see why she's had the best feedback on her own tracks.

In fact, she has such a growing following she was one of only 3 artists from the East Midlands area to be invited to the BBC Introducing Masterclass in Glasgow. Having only had a few plays on the station she was amazed to find herself listening to one of her biggest influences, English singer song writer Ben Howard, talk about his journey as an award winning solo artist. You get a strange feeling that in a few years time Lizzie herself could be standing in front of a room full of young artists looking to learn from the best. Aside from Ben Howard, Lizzie counts her influences from a diverse range of artists. From Katy Perry to Avril Lavigne to Ed Sheeran, she has the talent and musical ability to match any one of those three.

At 16 most people are sat at home with their friends, worrying about their upcoming exams. Lizzie uses the experience of performing to a packed room as a way of forgetting the pressures of being a teenager. The way she captivates an audience, using only her guitar and amazing voice, it'll not be long before this young lady is performing regularly to sell out crowds up and down the country.

Hearing her describe people singing her songs back to her as "The best thing ever" I can see her having a massive future in the music industry. If you get the chance to see her perform in the near future I'd recommend you buy that ticket. It'll not be long before you won't be able to get one, no matter how much you're prepared to pay.
