MAGISTRATES handed a mother who assaulted her daughter a conditional discharge after saying they sympathised with her having to deal with a "difficult" teenager.
The woman left her teenage daughter with marks all over her body and missing a clump of hair after assaulting her on the doorstep of the home they formerly shared.
The mother, who cannot be named to protect her child, admitted assaulting her daughter.
Chairwoman Elizabeth Perman said: "We have certain sympathy with you dealing with a difficult teenager at home but you have no previous history and you have shown remorse and entered an early guilty plea."
Swansea Magistrates' Court had heard there was a strained background between the pair and the daughter had recently moved out.
She had returned to the house to collect her belongings, which her mother had left outside in carrier bags, prosecutor Laura Carthew said.
When the girl got there, her stepfather went outside to take her some other belongings but an argument broke out. Simon Howell, representing the mother, said: "Certain comments were made to him and they were upsetting to her mother when she heard about them.
"She went outside, initially not to assault her daughter but to verbally remonstrate with her but the defendant very regrettably developed into an argument."
The daughter, who no longer lives at the home, was left with scram marks to her face, ears, back and body and a small clump of hair was missing, Mrs Carthew said.
The daughter, who said she was "devastated", added her younger sister would have seen the incident. The woman had no previous convictions before this one.
"It's a highly charged, emotional situation that was taking place. After which her life has been completely turned upside down," he said.
Magistrates gave the woman a 12- month conditional discharge and ordered her to pay £150 in costs.
A six-month restraining order was also granted to stop her contacting her daughter. Reported by This is 13 hours ago.
