This is Somerset -- A manhunt is underway in Somerset following the abduction of a seven-year-old girl from a Frome school yesterday(Thurs) afternoon. The incident took place between 3 and 4pm. The seven-year-old, a pupil at Vallis First School, had been attending school club and was taken by an unidentified man. It is not clear at this stage whether the girl was on school grounds or outside when she was taken. She was later found by a member of the public in a field in the Whatcombe area of the town but police will not confirm how long she was missing for. A police spokeswoman said: "We received a report of an incident in which a seven-year-old girl was picked up from an after school club last night. "The girl was left in a field and was found by a member of the public. An investigation is ongoing and there is a high visibility police patrols in the area. We would appeal to anyone who saw the man acting suspiciously near to the Vallis First School in Frome yesterday between 3pm or 4pm or who saw a young girl in red coat with a man. Members of the public are being asked to remain vigilant to any suspicious person around school areas. If you see anything please call us on 999 or 101." A Somerset County Council spokesman said: "The school is working closely with police to try and establish what happened. Staff have been notified and advised to be extra vigilant and report any suspicious activity. "The importance of 'stranger danger' will also be reiterated to pupils. "A letter has been sent to parents informing them of the incident and the steps that are being taken, and asking them to report anything they regard as suspicious. "Anyone with information should contact the Police immediately."
