The death of a 17-year-old girl from Lewes at a house in Ditchling is being treated as unexplained at this time.

Paramedics were called to the house in South Street around 9.15am on Friday (February 20) to a report of a girl in cardiac arrest. She had been found collapsed in the house by a friend, but sadly was declared dead at the scene around 10.30am.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark O'Brien said: "This is a very tragic incident and our thoughts are with the girl's family and friends at this sad time. A post mortem will be held to determine the cause of her death, but until that time it will be treated as unexplained."

Due to the number of emergency vehicles attending the scene in what is a narrow village street, the road was closed to traffic and remained so at 12.30pm.
