A woman from Redhill who assaulted a member of staff from the Octopus Bar in Crawley and broke candles has been given a 12 week curfew order and ordered to pay a £60 victim surcharge and £85 costs when she pleaded guilty at court in Crawley on 4 June. The curfew which is from 8pm-8am daily, will be monitored by an electronic tag.
Tracy Bresnihan, 34, unemployed, of Hanover Close, Redhill, was charged with racially aggravated common assault, criminal damage and resisting or obstructing a police officer in the lawful execution of his duty following a dispute with staff from the Octopus Bar on Friday 21 May.
In Brighton, a 17-year-old girl pleaded guilty to racially aggravated common assault and a separate common assault following an incident in Dyke Road, Brighton on May 20.
The girl, who may not be named for legal reasons, assaulted two men. She has been made the subject of a six month referral order, ordered to pay £50 compensation to a victim, £25 costs and a £15 victim surcharge when she attended court in Brighton on June 3.
Sergeant Peter Allan, Sussex Police hate crime sergeant, said: "These sentences send out a clear signal that we will take a robust approach to those who target individuals based on their race, disability, gender identity, religion or sexual orientation.
"I hope it will encourage other victims of hate crime to report such behaviour to the police.
