![Man who raped child in Plymouth is jailed for 10 years]()
This is Plymouth -- A MAN has been jailed for ten years for raping and sexually assaulting a teenage girl. Scott Mitchell, aged 40, took advantage on two occasions of the youngster – who is still haunted by her ordeal more than 15 years later. Judge Advocate Alan Large said on the first occasion his victim was extremely drunk. He told Mitchell: "The effects are still very much with her. She is affected daily by what she underwent at your hands." Mitchell had pleaded not guilty to raping the youngster in the city in June 1998. He also denied indecently assaulting the girl between June and December that year. Mitchell, of Morpeth Avenue in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, had pleaded not guilty to inciting the complainant to perform a gross indecency over the same period. But he was found guilty on all counts by a jury after a week-long trial last year. He showed little reaction as he was taken away, but women at the back of court shouted their support. One shouted: "Don't you know when you have been scammed?" The jury heard Mitchell, now a father-of-three, worked in Plymouth at the time of the offences for a window-fitting company. The victim told the court how he forced himself upon her in her bedroom while she was drunk after a night out. She added he later indecently assaulted her at his former home in Keyham. Mitchell, who moved back to London more than a decade ago, denied touching the girl in any way sexually. He said he was never alone with her on the days of the assaults. Judge Advocate Large said on the first occasion Mitchell had taken advantage of her when she was "extremely vulnerable". He added that on the second occasion the girl was asleep in the middle of the night when she awoke to find Mitchell touching her. Judge Advocate Large said he had read testimonials from his family saying he was a "good father".
