Man sexually assaulted teen after making explicit comments This is South Wales -- A SEX offender who ran off realising he was about to be caught was found later by police. Kevin Curtis, aged 56 from Swansea Road in Baglan, had admitted two offences of sexually assaulting a girl. Swansea Crown Court was told that after he was confronted, he drove to Pembrokeshire and the police helicopter had to be dispatched to try to find him. When officers located his car, they found the keys still inside and when Curtis returned to his vehicle he was arrested. His victim was in her teens when he assaulted her by grabbing her bottom and making explicit comments to her. She was encouraged to come forward and report the offence by a friend. In his interview, police put to Curtis their concerns that he was attracted to a teenager, but he said he refused to see that as the case but went on to describe her physical appearance to officers. He said he didn't know why he made the comments to the girl. "I have got a problem and perhaps I will see someone to sort it out," he told officers in his interview. He initially said his hand had brushed the girl's bottom but prosecutor James Jenkins said his guilty pleas shows that was not the case. Huw Rees, for Curtis, said his client was widowed. "His wife passed away some time ago and it's self-evident to anyone dealing with him he still harbours some grief with respect of the loss of his wife," said Mr Rees. "This is a defendant who resorted to heavy drinking and experienced low periods of depressions," he said. Mr Rees said although the type of offending had caused the victim distress, it was not the worst the court had seen. Judge Phillip Richards told him: "This was appalling behaviour. "To address her in the way you did was bad enough to offend her but to touch her was an appalling thing. "I hope you feel thoroughly ashamed of yourself, you should do," said the judge. "There's no other way to describe what you did to her other than being horrible," he added. He said he could either jail Curtis for a relatively short sentence or make him subject to a lengthy community sentence which he said would address Curtis's "inherent problems". The judge made him subject to a three year community order including supervision by the probation service. Reported by This is 2 hours ago.
