MoD: Winifred Holtby schoolgirl 'was hit by military vehicle' This is Hull and East Riding --

THE Ministry of Defence has confirmed a lorry that hit a schoolgirl in Hull was from the Defence School of Transport in Leconfield. The 11-year-old girl is being treated for serious, but non-life threatening injuries, following the accident in Axminster Close, Bransholme.

It is believed she had been walking home from Winifred Holtby School when the accident happened just after 3pm on Wednesday. The girl is being cared for in Hull Royal Infirmary.

An MoD spokesman said: "I can confirm the vehicle involved in this incident is from the Defence School of Transport. The matter is currently under investigation by Humberside Police and therefore it would not be appropriate to comment any further on the specifics of the incident.

"Clearly, our thoughts are very much with the girl involved and her family and we sincerely hope that she makes a full and quick recovery."

It is unclear if the lorry, which carries red 'L' plates, was being driven by a student or an instructor at the time of the collision. Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call Humberside Police on its non emergency number 101.
