A PERVERT has been jailed for more than four years after he sexually assaulted an underage girl.
The precise details of David Lawrence's attack on the girl, who was under the age of 13, were not revealed during his sentencing at Derby Crown Court.
But the court was told that he was already a serving prisoner for a similar offence when the allegations were made.
He had previously been sent to jail for 21 months.
Lawrence, 43, of Bass Street, Derby, was interviewed in prison about the allegation last month but he denied the incident had taken place.
Initially he was also charged with raping the child but this was dropped when the trial took place, said Mark Watson, for Lawrence.
Jailing Lawrence for four years and three months, Judge John Burgess said: "This is a most unusual case because of its history.
"You were already a serving prisoner when these fresh allegations came to light, meaning that the police had to visit you in prison to put the allegations to you before you were charged.
"The timing of all this is most unusual. It makes it a difficult sentencing exercise.
"But this is a very serious offence and one that you were convicted of by a jury."
The court was told that Lawrence was already the subject of a sexual offenders' prevention order for 10 years.
Judge Burgess increased that indefinitely.
Mr Watson, for Lawrence, said his client had been behaving in "an exemplary way" since he was first put behind bars for the 21-month sentence. Reported by This is 8 hours ago.
