This is Scunthorpe --
SCUNTHORPE'S Plowright Theatre will be turned into a House Of Fun next week as a Madness musical hits the stage.
North Lincolnshire drama group Wilton Productions is staging Our House every evening from Tuesday, September 3 until Saturday, September 7. There will also be a matinee performance on Saturday.
Our House is a show featuring the music and lyrics of huge 1980s ska/pop band Madness – who dominated the British charts with more than 20 top 20 hits in their heyday– and based on the book by Tim Firth.
Our House, named after one of the band's biggest hits, is the story of Joe Casey played by Tom Jackson, who, on the night of his 16th birthday, takes Sarah (Danielle Singleton), the girl of his dreams, out on their first date.
In an effort to impress her with bravado, he breaks into a building site overlooking his home on Casey Street, which is owned by Mister Pressman, played by John Parsons, a high-end property developer.
The police turn up, at which point Joe's life splits into two: the Good Joe, who stays to help, and Bad Joe, who flees.
Susan Williamson, publicity officer for the group, said the cast and crew are working tirelessly to bring this show to life for the Scunthorpe audiences.
Susan said: "This production is full of wit and humour, performed by some very talented and believable actors and actresses, such as Janet Altoft, Andrew Jackson, Jason Goodall, Sam Mason, Ashley Bateson, Kelly Whittingham and Zoe McCleave.
"There are several energetic and enthusiastic dance routines brought to you by a large dancing ensemble, to popular and well known Madness songs, choreographed by, Danielle Singleton, Eve Ridley and Becky Jackson.
"The direction of this show is in the capable hands of Andrew Jackson with blocking direction and set design from Wayne Newton.
"Costumes by Carol Witty and the cast members, and the musical direction is coming from Damian Bell. The set has been built by Steve Rands, Alan Bomberg and the artwork by Maggie Brader.
"This show is well worth a trip to the Plowright. Let Wilton take you back to the days of Madness."
Performances start at 7.30pm, with the matinee on Saturday beginning at 2.30pm.
Tickets are available from the box office at the Plowright Theatre, Scunthorpe or call 08448 542 776.
Tickets are £8 per ticket on Tuesday (September 3) and £11, with £9 for concessions, from the Wednesday until Saturday, including the matinee performance. Reported by This is 2 days ago.
