This is Nottingham --

A SEX attacker targeted a teenage girl late at night in a residential street.

Police say the 17-year-old was subjected to a "serious" sexual assault in Coleby Road on the Broxtowe Estate at around 10.30pm on Thursday night.

The attack happened close to a bus stop at the Broxtowe Lane end of the road as the girl was walking in the street.

People living nearby said they were shocked the assault had taken place just yards from their front doors.

Police released no further details about the assault but said the girl had been left "uninjured but shaken".

Mum of two Stacey Noon, 28, who lives in the street, said: "The first I knew about it was when I looked out of my window at about 7am and saw the cordon and the police officers.

"I'd be worried if I had teenage girls who are out in the street at night. My kids are younger and stay indoors."

The cordon, which stretched across the road and closed it to traffic, was due to be lifted yesterday afternoon.

Police were checking CCTV footage and going door to door in the area.

Coleby Road is one of the busiest on the estate and is lined by blocks of terraced houses with front gardens.

A police spokeswoman confirmed the attack happened in the street rather than in a garden or near a house.

No arrests have been made.

Another mother who lives in the street, who asked not to be named, said: "Part of the street can be pretty dark. Sometimes I can't see my car on the driveway even when I'm walking to the house.

"I just hope the girl is all right. It makes me worry, especially for when my daughter comes home at night. I'll be waiting for her to come home at the bottom of the drive."

Mandy Clark, 48, who also lives in the street, said: "I got out of a taxi not long before and it's scary to think it happened not long after."

A police spokeswoman said it was too early in the investigation to say whether or not it was a random attack, adding: "We are investigating all possibilities."

Anyone who saw the incident or who may have useful information should contact Notts Police on 101 giving incident number 995 of August 29. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Reported by This is 5 hours ago.
