A PAEDOPHILE who repeatedly assaulted a girl has been caught out breaching a court order after being photographed with a child at a christening.
Leslie Compton, 56, was jailed for two years and five months in March 2010 for "persistent, deliberate and manipulative" sexual assaults on a vulnerable girl.
At Gloucester Crown Court yesterday he admitted breaching a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, made in 2010, which ordered him not to be in the company of children, believed to be under 17, unless in the presence of their parents, during the next 10 years.
Compton, of Davis Alley in Tewkesbury, was caught out when a routine check by public protection officers uncovered the christening photo, the court heard.
There is no evidence Compton did anything untoward to the child at the christening.
Prosecutor Janine Wood said the child's mother was not aware of the order against Compton, but knew the child had not come to any harm.
Nicola Colwill, defending Compton, said: "He did not have disrespect for the order – he just didn't give it a thought.
"He was very, very sorry that he spoiled the day for some people at the christening with his subsequent arrest."
She said Compton did not try to conceal the photo from protection officers, and added: "The probation service has no concern about risk."
Judge Jamie Tabor warned Compton he could have been jailed for up to five years for breaching a SOPO.
He ordered him to carry out a 12-month community order with supervision and pay £100 costs.
The judge said: "This case will serve to remind you that the conditions on this order are very strict. If you breach it again, any judge will say 'once is an accident, but twice is more than careless', so you have got to be more careful."
In 2010, Compton was found guilty of two charges of indecent assault and one charge of sexual assault.
At the time, the court heard he repeatedly abused the girl by indecently touching her when she was aged between 11 and 13. Reported by This is 6 hours ago.
