Man tried to abduct 8-year-old girl court hears This is Hull and East Riding --

A LITTLE girl fought off a man who was trying to abduct and rape her by hitting him with her scooter, a court has heard.

Jason Fallows, 22, is accused of trying drag the eight-year-old into a caravan in Hornsea.

The girl hit him on the leg with her scooter after he grabbed her coat and told her to go into the caravan, Hull Crown Court was told.

Fallows suffers from "significant" learning disabilities and has been ruled unfit to stand trial. A jury has been asked to consider whether or not he committed the act.

In a video interview shown to the court, the girl said Fallows grabbed her as she was playing at Barcourt Estate Caravan Park, in Cliff Road.

She said she clung on to railings around the caravan in a desperate bid to escape.

Seen sitting next to a teddy bear, the girl said: "He ran up to me and grabbed me and was saying, 'come into my caravan'.

"He was grabbing me and pulling me into his caravan and saying some other things, but I couldn't tell what he was saying.

"I grabbed on to a fence to get out of it, but I had to get my scooter and whack him with it. He got off me and went back into his caravan.

"It was scary."

The girl said she then ran back to her grandmother's caravan, where she was staying.

Fallows later told his foster carer Jean Lancaster he wanted to drag the girl into the caravan to have sex with her, said prosecutor Mark Kendall.

He is accused of attempting to kidnap the girl with intent to rape her on April 1.

Giving evidence, the girl's grandmother said: "I was reading in the caravan and I just heard her screaming, so I got straight up and went to the door, where she was running up screaming. She was scared to death.

"She was crying and shaking, she was terrified. She came up the steps and ran across and just grabbed hold of me. She was crying and she couldn't breathe. It was awful.

"I cuddled her and asked her what happened and she said a man had tried to drag her into his caravan."

The woman said her granddaughter pointed to the caravan where Fallows was staying with his foster carer when she asked who the man was.

She said she alerted the site managed John Crowther, who contacted Miss Lancaster and asked her to return.

Miss Lancaster had gone shopping with her sister Joan Smith.

Miss Smith told the court Miss Lancaster went to see the girl's parents with Mr Crowther while she stayed with the defendant.

"I said to him it would be easier telling me the truth than the police," she said.

"Two minutes later, he said 'I have remembered dragging the girl into the caravan because she asked me to have sex with her'."

She told her sister when she returned to the caravan.

In a statement read to the court, Miss Lancaster said: "He said he wanted to pull her into the caravan to have sex with her. I asked him if he knew what sex was and he said he would take all his clothes off and all her clothes off.

"At that point, I called social services and said I thought the police should be called and they agreed."

Mr Crowther said he heard Fallows say he had grabbed the girl because she called him names when he asked her to move her scooter.

Fallows was arrested but was not questioned by police because of his learning difficulties.

Fallow's barrister Mark McKone told the jury he suffers from learning disabilities, autism and adult attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. He has not been in court for the case.

The jury is expected to retire to consider its decision today.

The Honorary Recorder of Hull and the East Riding, Judge Michael Mettyear, told the jury: "He is not here for punishment because he is so poorly that would not be appropriate. Your role is necessary and important.

"The authorities and everybody concerned with the defendant needs to know if he did do it. That will impact on how he is managed in the future. It is about knowing what risk he does or doesn't pose."

Both Fallows and the girl are from West Yorkshire and were on holiday at the site. Reported by This is 1 day ago.
