I taught her well but kids are kids This is Staffordshire --

FURTHER to the letter, headlined 'Wake up to this bad behaviour' (Sentinel, August 7) about a young girl crossing the road carelessly in front of a bus on Beaconsfield Drive, outside the Sir Stanley Matthews Academy.

The lady was telling parents to teach their children about road safety and basically save their lives.

I'm Courtney Holdcroft's mum, the girl who died two years ago after being hit by a bus.

I just want the lady to know that I did teach my daughter road safety, but kids are kids. Don't tell me in 81 years she's never made a mistake when crossing the road.

Courtney may have heard better if it wasn't for the road sweeper.

I'm sitting here by her urn in her bedroom, and although I taught her, not a day goes by when I don't blame myself for maybe doing something wrong.

But no-one ever got to hear Courtney's story, as she didn't survive to tell us. Maybe it wasn't her mistake. But I did teach her, kids are kids.

We've all been there. If I didn't teach her enough, well I'm serving a harsh life sentence, I can assure you.
