This is Lincolnshire --

An eight-year-old girl pricked her finger on a hypodermic needle which she found hidden inside a toy at a crime prevention event.

The young girl won the china doll on the tombola at the Skegness Crime Prevention Panel annual gala, which is supported by Lincolnshire Police.

She then found the syringe inside the toy's clothes, but didn't realise what it was until she removed the lid.

The girl, from Skegness, then tried to put the top back onto the needle, but pricked her finger.

Her mother wrote on the Skegness, Skegness Facebook page: "I am really angry and quite obviously very concerned about my daughter, who knows what is on the needle ie what it was used for?"

She later added that the girl was taken to hospital and admitted for treatment for Hepatitis B.

One of the mother's friends later posted that world-renowned Addenbrookes Hospital had decided that she was at very low risk from HIV and hepatitis C.

The doll had been given as a prize from one of the stalls at the event.

It had been bought from a car boot sale before the event.

The crime prevention gala was held at Tower Gardens in Skegness on Sunday.

A police spokesman confirmed the incident is not being treated as criminal, and said the needle had a cap on top and could have been mistaken for a pen.

"It appears the girl removed the cap then pricked her finger when attempting to replace the top.

"The needle had been inside the doll's underclothes.

"This doll, together with another one – that has been checked and is fine – were purchased at a car boot sale recently.

"The doll has been seized and the needle sent off for testing so that the hospital know what the hypodermic contained.

"Although an alarming incident for the family concerned, there are no criminal offences." Reported by This is 4 hours ago.
