The story has raised a moral dilemma – would you give the bag back if it happened to you?

The response from our readers has been a mixed one. Below is a small selection of some of the comments we have received.

Hazel Fixsen wrote: "If the mistake was the sales assistant's then yes she should keep it because it was a clerical error. But if it was her mistake then if she was honest and an law abiding citizen then she should return it."

Scott Rivers wrote: "Tricky question this one. I understand it's for charity, but the rules are if it's offered at a price with sticker you must be offered the goods at that price. It is a shame that it's gone so cheap. At the same time the woman has not done anything wrong."

Mark Williamson wrote: "As it was a charity shop the decent thing to do would be to return the bag or pay the full price, it was a genuine error from a volunteer. Had it been a chain store etc then a different story."

Laura Marshall wrote: "Thing is the bag was on sale for £350. So the girl knew it was this amount and she must have had the money to spend that amount. I think she should give a donation of say £100. BHF is getting a substantial donation, she's still getting huge bargain.

Sarah Luxton wrote: "The girl must have been prepared to pay £350 so she should give them the money. It doesn't matter if it's the volunteer's fault, it's for charity! I'd have such a guilty conscience if I was her.

Karen Small wrote: "It's a bargain! Yes it was a mistake but I'm sure if we are all honest with ourselves most of us would keep quiet if we got something for less than we expected to pay. We expect bargains in charity shops as it's donated goods." Reported by This is 11 hours ago.
