This is South Wales --

A 60-YEAR-OLD man has been jailed for more than 11 years after he admitted a series of sex assaults.

The victim of Huw Williams was praised by a judge for her bravery as she took a seat in the public gallery to see him sentenced.

Williams, of Common Farm, Llanrhidian, North Gower, had admitted offences including rape and a number of sexual assaults. The historic offences took place when he was aged around 30, Swansea Crown Court heard.

Judge Peter Heywood told Williams: "Justice has eventually caught up with you for these awful crimes."

Details of the offences were read by prosecuting barrister Frank Phillips. He said the girl had been forced to complete sex acts on Williams as well as watch pornography. Mr Phillips said the victim said Williams had caused her "horrendous pain" and despite her telling him to stop because of the pain he was causing, he refused.

Mr Phillips said after reporting the crimes, the victim told police she did not feel she had "any purpose in existing".

Judge Peter Heywood told the victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, that she had shown an incredible strength of character to report the assault but also to come to court and see her attacker face to face.

"It took huge backbone to be here," he told her.

Williams's barrister, Owen Williams, said his client felt remorse and regret for his "deplorable offending".

He said Williams, who had worked as a driver, farmer, labourer and also for Welsh Water, had suffered health problems in the last year.

Williams received terms of between a year for the sexual assaults and the longest term of 11 years and four months for rape. Reported by This is 18 hours ago.
